How To Climb The Career Ladder Using Your Networks

If you think for a second that you could get far in your career without having any relevant networks then you are wrong.

We all go through this, it’s almost like a rite of passage at this point as we believe that we can get far in life on our own; however, although it is a good thought to have, in terms of our career we slowly start to see the truth of it all, a lot of people tend to get far based on whom they know. Networking can bring us opportunities that we feel are out of our reach.

It isn’t fair and it is not a nice thing or you may feel like you do not know anyone relevant in your circle but doesn’t worry!

We have tips to help you with that.

Here Are Three Ways You Can Use Your Networks To Climb The Career Ladder.

Knowledge Sharing

Your networks can offer you knowledge on things you may have not known that you needed to know. They can offer you advice, on how to prepare for your interview or even offer to look at your CV as they are in the same industry as you. If they are not working in the same desired role you want, they can offer you advice on whom to speak to in order to reach the right head of the department you want to work at.

Gaining Connections

Our networks can offer us more people to reach out to which would then help you build a stronger chance to climb high on the ladder as these 2nd or third-level connections could be in a higher position to help you.

It is important to be kind to the 1st connection who introduced you to these people, and introduce them to your connections also so they can also have opportunities as well.

Profile Visibility

Lastly, making as many connections as possible helps build your profile visibility, if you are attending a networking event, people will know who you are or even on LinkedIn, the more connections you have, the more visible you become to others, this means that you may get more invitations to connect or if it is in person due to your high profile, you may get more invites to attend places which brings more opportunities your way!

Doesn’t that sound great? Right? This is why you must use your networks.

Put in the work and you get results; But remember, maintain the relationships you built, if you do not then you have lost a potential opportunity that could have been given to you

Remember that sometimes it’s not you, or the networking but the company itself, so if you want to change your career in 40 days or less, don’t hesitate to reach one of our Career Experts. Book a free call now

I Overcame My Limiting Beliefs When I Realised These 4 Things

Job Searching is not for the weak, especially when your application is handed with multiple rejections, this could cause you to have limiting beliefs which could affect your career confidence.

What are limiting beliefs you might ask? Limiting beliefs are notions we have about the world and ourselves that keep us from reaching our full potential, this can affect our job search mindset by making us feel lower and incapable than what we actually are.

Eventually, you will realise breaking through self-doubt is the main way for us to actually be free and help us with our career growth.

I have been there! But Now that I overcame my limiting beliefs when I realised these 4 things:

Establish your limiting beliefs.

The First step I did was identity what they are, and then broken down into 4 areas:

Limiting Beliefs about Other People

Limiting assumptions about other people involve being self-conscious. The limiting thought that underlies social anxiety is frequently, “Others will think I’m X.” Complete the sentence: uncomfortable, foolish, unlovable. This kind of limiting mindset, which holds that others will be disappointed or won’t love you if you don’t perform in a specific way, is where perfection originates.

About the World

These are preconceived notions about “how things are,” including the idea that you have no influence over your situation. One common limitation is a lack of time. Denial is another limiting worldview, such as the idea that true love doesn’t exist. It’s tough to discover occupations that are fulfilling. One of the most difficult things we can accomplish in life is to change our limiting ideas, yet once we do, we are rewarded with unimaginable possibilities.

About Yourself

Limiting views about yourself arise when you believe that you are naturally uncomfortable, foolish, or unlovable, as opposed to caring what others think. Other prevalent self-beliefs include the notions that you are too young, too ugly, or incapable of learning new skills. None of these statements are true. These are merely the tales you tell yourself, which you may modify.

Entitled Beliefs

What if I told you that sometimes having limiting ideas can feel empowering? Many times, arguments for avoiding change and staying in your comfort zone include thinking that the world owes you anything, that you’re superior to others, or that people just “don’t get” you.

Take Accountability

I then realised that I had to take accountability for my life, I used to believe that I was not getting the interviews I wanted due to the fact that I believed that recruiters did not like me, but one day I got career advice from a career coach who gave me great job search support, he mentioned that it is not about if they like you or not, but it is about how you tailor your cv to be able to get that interview.

At that moment I realised that I had to focus on what I can control, not what I can’t.

I am getting rejected because of something I could control which was my cv and cover letter.

Leave Certainty Behind

Certainty is something we all crave, and it’s understandable. It gives us a sense of security, stability, and control over our lives. But what if I told you that sometimes, leaving certainty behind is the best thing you can do for yourself?

I know this firsthand because I had to do it to grow in my career. It was scary to leave the comfort of a stable job and dive into the unknown, but it was necessary. Sometimes, in order to reach our goals and achieve success, we have to take that leap of faith and trust that we’ll land on our feet.

I’ve seen so many people stay in toxic jobs or relationships because they’re afraid of uncertainty. They’re afraid of what the world may bring and they cling to what they know, even if it’s not good for them. But the truth is, staying in a place of certainty that’s not serving you will only hold you back from reaching your full potential.

So if you’re feeling stuck in a situation that no longer serves you, I encourage you to take that leap of faith. Embrace uncertainty as an opportunity for growth and trust that the universe has a plan for you. It may be scary, but the rewards that come with taking that risk can be life-changing.

Change your inner dialogue

Your limiting beliefs can sometimes manifest deep in your subconscious mind, I used to say to myself I could not do it but then I thought it was wrong to say that so I stopped, however, because I said it to myself, my subconscious mind held onto that thought and so even when I stopped saying that, my inner self still believed that I was incapable.

I realised that I needed to look deeper within myself, and meditate to be able to feel good on the inside just as much as on the outside

I hope this helps you fight back against all of the limiting beliefs that you have; If you need extra help, a career coach could help you with career empowerment and any job search obstacles that you have in order to achieve career success.

Work Overload – How can we avoid being piled up with work

How can we avoid being piled up with work when it just keeps coming our way?

Throughout almost all of my working years, I found a struggle to balance all of the objectives that have been thrown my way; I would feel so guilty about not having specific tasks done, I would end up doing overtime and missing a chance to spend more time with the kids.

By the time I would arrive home, they would be sound asleep… except for me, I would do even more work at home.

But how do we avoid it? First, we have to understand what causes it.

Work overload occurs when demands on a person’s time and resources are greater than their capacity to handle the demands of their job. Work overload is a metaphor for the burden of hours worked, the time sacrificed, and the sense of annoyance at not being able to do chores in the allotted time.

Now the issue may not be you but could be the company or it could actually be how you managed your time.

Here are ways you can avoid work overload:

Learn how to say No

We all know this is something we are all guilty of especially when we are trying to make a good impression at work and build good connections with others. We tend to overstep our boundaries for the sake of it.

But I am here to tell you NO! Do not do it, especially if you know you have too much to do.

People will not respect you due to your willingness to say yes but, instead, people tend to respect you more when you have your boundaries set and in place.

Do not be afraid and stand your ground, your inner well-being is more important than external work.

Organise your time budget around your weekly tasks

Know what is the most important in your to-do list and put that as priority over the other tasks that are not as important, next allocate certain time to do your tasks, know your time budget. You won’t be left with anxiety wondering how you can get certain work done by the end of the day especially when you are at home off work.

Try to invest in a physical or digital planner to help with this. I personally use Notion which helps with my weekly and daily tasks.

Analyse and Change your habits

Work on what issues you have that may have you doing your work later than the allocated time.

Are you a procrastinator? Do you not know how to organise it? Do you feel as though you are used to not having things done so that it does not bother you anymore?

Work on these habits and make a change for the better, just not for yourself but for other people in your life whether it’s personal or at work. For me I had to make changes for my kids as I wanted to spend more time with them and I felt as though as a parent it wouldn’t be too fair on them.

Just know you can overcome this, you are not alone!
